Catmint, known botanically as Nepeta, is an herbaceous perennial that is part of the mint family. Not to be confused with Catnip, Catmint is slightly less fragrant and has more ornamental value. Here's why Catmint is the perfect addition to your garden:

Appearance: Catmint has a spreading form with thin, fragrant, green-silver foliage. It produces small, lipped flowers that are white, blue, or purple in color. The blooms are clustered atop the stems, flowering from spring into summer. Butterflies are attracted to its blooms.

Sunlight: It thrives in full sun and is very heat tolerant.

Soil and Watering: Catmint requires good drainage and is relatively drought-tolerant once established. It is tolerant of a range of soil types, and can grow well in clay, loamy, or sandy soil. Adding organic mulch around the base of the plant helps retain moisture without becoming waterlogged and can regulate soil temperature.

Maintenance: Catmint is a low maintenance plant. Flowers can be cut back when they begin to fade to encourage new blooms.

Uses: Plant Catmint along a border or in small groups. These versatile plants do well just about anywhere, and can even be planted in a container. They are popular to use in pollinator or butterfly gardens.

Overall, Catmint adds a beautiful pop of color and unique fragrance to the garden space. It’s a popular choice among gardeners for its ornamental value, pollinator-friendly qualities, and ease of care requirements.
