Pumpkin Small Sugar, or Cucurbita pepo 'Small Sugar’, is an heirloom pumpkin variety that is known for its classic orange color and sweet taste. Here’s why the Small Sugar Pumpkin is the perfect addition to your vegetable garden:

Growing Season: Pumpkins can be planted in the early spring, after the last frost is passed. Plant directly in the ground by creating mounds that are spaced 6 feet apart, and sow the seeds 1 inch deep within each mound. Small Sugar Pumpkins will take most of the summer to grow and be ready for harvest by fall.

Sunlight: Pumpkins require full sun to successfully bear fruit.

Water and Soil: Pumpkins thrive in well-draining soil that is high in organic matter. Keep them watered during dry periods, and consider mulching to retain moisture and reduce weeds.

Harvest: Small Sugar Pumpkins are ready to harvest when they turn completely orange and your fingernail does not leave a dent in the skin. They will be 6-8 inches in diameter when ready to harvest. This variety is known for its sweet flavor, making it a favorite in pies and preserves.
