The Homestead Tomato, or Lycopersicon lycopersicum ''Homestead'', is an heirloom variety of tomato that is prized for its heat tolerance. Here’s why the Homestead Tomato is the perfect addition to your vegetable garden:

Growing Season: Tomato seeds are best started indoors 6-8 weeks prior to the last frost date with a quality seed starter mix. Sow seeds 1/4 inches deep and keep in front of a sunny window or under an LED grow light. Transplant to the garden by mid-spring.

Sunlight: Tomatoes require full sun and thrive in the late-spring heat. The Homestead Tomato is particularly heat tolerant and will have a longer production season than other tomato varieties.

Soil: Tomatoes require organically rich, well-draining soil. Be sure to plant your tomato transplants with quality plant food to reduce transplant shock and boost root growth.

Harvest: You can expect to harvest your first tomatoes in the early summer. They will appear plump and have a bright red color when ready for harvest. Homestead Tomatoes are firm and meaty, making them perfect to pile on sandwiches and hamburgers.
