Drip irrigation line being installed at the base of a newly planted shrub

    Irrigation System Design & Installation

A system designed around the property, not one size fits all.

An irrigation system is only as good as the design behind it. Turf, foundation plantings and beds all need different amounts of water on different schedules, and a system that treats a whole yard as one zone tends to overwater some areas while leaving others dry.

We design and install systems zoned to how the property is actually planted and how the ground handles water, which on Western NC clay sites is as much a part of the design as the plumbing itself.

    Designing around the site

Sun exposure, slope, soil and what is actually planted all change how a zone should be watered. Turf, shrub beds and foundation plantings have different needs, and grouping them into the same zone is one of the most common reasons a system underperforms.

We walk the property and design zones around those differences before anything goes in the ground, rather than laying out a generic grid and adjusting after the fact.

Why the layout matters more than the equipment

Two systems built from identical parts can perform very differently depending on head placement, zone grouping and how the mainline and valves are laid out. Poor layout shows up later as dry patches, runoff onto pavement, or water sitting where it should not.

Getting this right at installation is what determines whether the system does its job without you having to compensate for it manually.

Installed alongside the rest of the landscape

Because we also handle planting, sod and soil conditioning, an irrigation system can be designed and installed as part of the same project rather than added on afterward by a separate contractor working from someone else's plan.

That matters most on new installs, where zoning the irrigation to the planting plan from the start is considerably more effective than retrofitting it later.

    Irrigation: common questions

Do you install sprinkler systems, drip irrigation, or both?

We design around what is actually being watered. Open turf areas are typically zoned for sprinklers, while beds and foundation plantings often suit drip line better. Most properties end up with a mix, laid out zone by zone rather than one system type for the whole yard.

Can irrigation be added after the landscaping is already in?

Yes, though it is more straightforward when it is designed alongside the planting plan from the start. Where the landscaping already exists, we work the zone layout around what is already in the ground.

Will the system be zoned so I am not overwatering some areas and underwatering others?

That is the point of the design step before anything is installed. Turf, shrub beds and foundation plantings are grouped into separate zones based on what they actually need, rather than run off a single generic schedule.
