    Water Feature Design & Installation

A water feature designed to fit the property, not just sit on top of it.

A pond, waterfall or fountain only looks like it belongs on a property if it is designed around the site: the grade, the existing plantings, and how water already moves across the yard.

We design and install water features as part of the broader landscape rather than as a standalone add-on, which is what keeps them looking intentional once the plants around them fill in.

    Designing around the site

Grade, drainage and sun exposure all affect where a water feature should sit and how it should be built. A pond or waterfall placed without accounting for how water already moves across the property tends to fight the site instead of working with it.

We walk the property and design the feature around those conditions before any digging starts.

Built into the landscape, not placed on top of it

A water feature reads as part of the property when it is tied into the surrounding grading, plantings and hardscaping, rather than installed as an isolated element.

Because we also handle plantings, hardscapes and retaining walls, a pond or waterfall can be designed and built alongside that work from the start.

    Built for the long term

Water features installed without the right grading and construction underneath them can settle, leak or develop drainage problems over time.

Getting the groundwork right at installation is what keeps the feature performing years later instead of becoming a recurring repair.

    Water Features: common questions

Do you design custom water features or install from a set design?

We design around the property: the grade, existing plantings and how the feature will be seen from the house or patio. Every site is different, so the design starts with a walk of the property rather than a standard layout.

Can a water feature be added to an existing landscape?

Yes. We work the design and grading around what is already planted and built. It is most straightforward when planned alongside other landscape work, but adding one to an established yard is common.

Will the water feature be built to handle our clay soil and freeze-thaw winters?

That is part of what the design accounts for. Western NC clay holds water and the ground moves through freeze-thaw cycles, so the grading and construction underneath the feature are built with those conditions in mind, not as an afterthought.

Do I need a design before you can start?

Not necessarily, but it helps. Our Sketch-N-Go service is free and same-day: bring photos of your property to the nursery and our designers will hand-draw a sketch with recommendations while you wait. For larger projects we also offer full 3D renderings so you can see the finished space before any work begins.

    What areas do you serve?

We work throughout Western North Carolina from our Valdese location, including Hickory, Morganton, Lenoir, Newton, Conover, Granite Falls, Hudson, Marion, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and Asheville, and across Burke, Catawba and Caldwell Counties. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call us at (828) 874-0679.
